Duke students can be proud of one more accomplishment this month. Not only are their academics soaring, but the Karl and Mary Ellen von der Heyden Pavilion has just been named one of the most beautiful library spaces in the country by Travel and Leisure magazine.
Completed in 2005, the library has quickly become one of the most recognizable and popular buildings on the Duke campus. It’s Gothic style and modern features make it a great place to hit the books before those big exams that are just over the horizon.
At 4,500 square feet, it is just large enough to feel cozy and comfortable. It was designed by the Horace Trumbauer architectural firm, a firm that is actively working to redesign and modernize many other buildings on the Duke campus over the coming years.
When everything is said and done, the Duke campus will be full of some of the most unique and modern architecture within America. Whether you are a student or a resident of the community, it’s well worth taking a look at.
